Jim Anderton wants a review of the Electoral Finance ACT

This from http://home.nzcity.co.nz/news/article.aspx?id=88472&fm=newsmain,nrhl

Progressive leader Jim Anderton is surprised his party has been found in breach of new electoral laws.

The Electoral Commission has ruled an advertisement run by the Progressive Party in the Southland Times in April about BZP was an election advert and did not carry a promoter statement as required. It has referred the matter to the police.

Mr Anderton says the situation seems bizarre and he acknowledges the Electoral Finance Act has created issues around his ability to do his job. He believes putting out an advertisement advising people of a law change was an appropriate thing to do as he is the Associate Minister of Health.

Mr Anderton doubts anyone thought political parties would end up being caught out by the fine print of the legislation and believes the Act should be reviewed.

Stop the reviews Jim, just repeal it.

Huh, I saw that advertisment he made - a couple of months back. I should have complained - but when I read through it, it was worded so carefully that I thought it would not come under the EFA!

Jimmy eh, figures he gets grumpy when it affects him. I remember the Kiwi Party releasing something against that bill - calling for a referendum on it... surprised Winston is all over it!

Hi Alastair,

Yes, Jim's a hypocrite isn't he. I see you're a home-educator; fantastic, I am too.

Yes Andy you could say we are up and running again! I mean, we never actually shut down did we?

Post when you like man, this issue just caught my eye and I couldn't resist ;)

And yes it is my first post in a long time. Last time it was digging into John Key on the 26th of June. Wow, he mustn't have said anything worthy of criticism since !!!

Good call Andy, nothing worse than Helen teaching our kids...it seems the soviets have been getting their agendas into our kids for years now through NZ politics, it going to be tough reprogramming the lies out of the next generation of school drop outs..the sooner we start the better I say.
